OLRH - 1911 ANNEX BUILDING

June 23 2025

We would like to provide an update on the status of the 1911 Annex of the Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital as you may have noticed netting installed around the structure.
The Annex was built in 1911 and the West Wing addition was added in 1920. Both structures feature a sandstone foundation with brick cladding for the exterior, which are deteriorating in some locations of the Annex.

In consultation with Alberta Historic Resources Management Branch, Alberta Health Services is undertaking temporary measures to maintain the integrity of the 1911 building. The temporary measures include wood framing and plywood shoring on the inside and outside of the foundation and black netting over the exterior. The netting is intended to contain any debris that may fall. The temporary measures will remain in place until a determination is made as to any future restoration of the building.

We as Covenant are proud of our facilities and are privileged to serve the health needs of the Castor community and surrounding area within the walls of Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital. We also recognize and appreciate the historic importance of the Annex to the community and are committed to preserve where possible and prevent any future deterioration of the Annex in partnership with Alberta Health Services.
