2012 will be an exciting year for the County of Paintearth No. 18.

The energy sector continues to grow and be an important component in the Paintearth Region.  Capital Power has commenced the construction of an 83 unit wind farm along Highway 12 between Halkirk and Castor.  This project will bring upwards of 200 workers into the area for the next 2 years.  After this project is completed, maintenance staff of 12 will be retained for Phase 1.  The oil and gas sector has begun to rebound with the promise of new exploration in the Bulwark Area.  The Battle River Coal Generation Plant continues to be a vital part of the Paintearth Region.

County Council experimented with a new soil stabilizer called MG 30.  This product was applied to the Green House Road RR123 and TWP 374 adjacent to the County Administration Building on a trial basis.  This product has shown great promise as it resembles an application of oil.

The agricultural sector had a promising year with increased prices in the cattle and grain markets with good yields and high grades.  Hopefully in 2012, there will be abundant moisture, and prices will hold.

The County will be celebrating 50 years as a County in 2012.  The County will be holding a celebration in early summer.  Please watch the website and the bulletin for confirmed dates and details.

On behalf of County Council and staff, I would like to wish everyone a prosperous 2012.

Sincerely,
Reeve George Glazier
